TRASH TALKERS

Let’s talk Euchre – a great card game when played with friends that can incorporate fun competition and insightful conversation.  NOT!  I must win, and win every time.  Those are truly the feelings that Missy and I both have regarding playing games.  What is the point of playing a game if you’re intentions are not to win?  Or try your best to win.  I remember when my parents first taught Missy and I to play cards, and when we would beat them at their own game . . . my dad really didn’t like it.  Missy playfully asked him if he was a sore loser?  He responded with,

“I’d rather be a happy winner!”

 So I think it’s obvious where I get my competitive edge.  🙂

The “trash talking” during these games is usually quite spirited, friendly, funny, and NEVER hurtful. I have found that this is not necessarily the case in other areas.  For example, you might recognize trash talking in many other venues, like in our schools (known as bullying) in almost all sports, in business, with co-workers, and in our churches.  Yes I said it, in our churches.

The concept of trash talking is to get inside the “competitors” head and get them to doubt their abilities or make them believe they “can’t win!”  You would be hard pressed to find a team member trash talking to their own team member.  If it does happen, they ultimately don’t win.  Their not in UNITY and their leader has probably lost control of the team.

The ultimate trash talker was Goliath – he held the entire Army of Israel and their KING (King Saul) pinned down with just his words.  Every morning and every night FOR 40 DAYS he would trash talk some more to ensure that no one felt they could win against him.  Then one day – David stood up against Goliath because he knew the things Goliath said weren’t true.  David believed in a God that saw him (David) differently.

How do you view yourself?  Or better yet… what is your perception of how God views you?

God loves you! No matter what you have done, no matter how you used to be or currently are, He loves you!  And, the Holy Spirit is a gentleman, He will speak to your heart gently.  God does not throw blazing spears at you and try to move you with harsh words because of your mistakes.  People use those venues.  Please understand, I am not saying that people should pussyfoot around you and coddle you like a baby . . .   I am simply stating that their words should always be encouraging.  Hearing the truth in your situation will not hold you back, in fact it’s quite the opposite.  The word of God says, “that the truth will set you free.”

Don’t listen to TRASH TALKING!  Surround yourself with leaders that recognize their not perfect and neither are you.  Don’t be like everyone else and be held back by negative words; even if the person speaking them is someone you look up to.

Be like David, use your own words and prove them all wrong!
